In 1991 I returned to Bristol after 5 years working in the USA. At this time I took a sequence of short term engineering design contracts in Bristol with some longish periods in between when I was able to focus on artwork. I drew at Queen’s Rd again, at Bower Ashton Art College, at several life drawing sessions set up in community centres in Bristol, including Horley Rd, Pigsty Hill, the Jamaica St studios. I also cleared a small, poorly lit and low-ceilinged room I could use for a studio in my home in Montpelier and, for the first time in Britain, occasionally hired paid models there, besides drawing many friends. I continued to work in watercolour for poses of an hour or more, in monochrome watercolours for shorter poses and charcoal for sketches.
