Graphite Portrait Sketches, 1991-1996

These sketches are usually how I make my first attempt of a portrait of any sitter. These are mostly near life size on A2 spiral bound pads or in hard back 11” by 14” sketchbooks, when they are very often portraits drawn of other students while they are drawing the model in the life room. In this case they are virtually all profiles because of the need not to distract the subject from their own drawing, i.e. they are usually unaware they are being drawn and I am accomodating quite a bit of movement in my subject.
